This is a piano version. Ballaghaderreen (Bealach an Doirin) is the name of a small town in Ireland. The name caught my fancy
Named in the attempt to capture both Irish and Scottish musical figures. An exotic subject.
An above average tune. Linn is a Scottish word for the plunge-pool of a waterfall. Depicting Psa 10:7 "He drinks from any stream he has to cross, then charges forward triumphing" (Moffat).
Slow air. A solid tune with the meaning of underlying support.
A good tune. Dr Davidson - Clan Piper of the Davidson Clan gained the first Ph.D. in piping!
A lament. Two Finnish women working with an NGO in Herat, Afghanistan were killed by gunfire in 2014, after a lifetime of service to the people of that country. Their taxi was attacked, and the driver was also killed.
Another lament. Tom was killed instantly along with about 8 other aid workers when he was returning from an eye relief camp in Northern Afghanistan
Electronic Pipes. Maria was a Spanish woman who stayed with us for six months. This is a Flamenco imitation using the computer program, Sibelius.
A good tune. For a couple coming from the USA to live in our area, with deliberate echoes of the iconic Dr Ross’s 50th Welcome by Donald MacLeod
A good tune with at least three layers of meaning. It predates the movie by many years and is intended to convey the excitement as the king approaches. It almost turns into a dance at the end
Novel chromatics! Composed on Sibelius and played using its electronic pipes. It is a bit scary - like my wife! who had just gained pensioner status
A good hornpipe. This commemorates the 5th anniversary of an active Scottish music group in our suburb
This piece celebrates the production of a new personal tartan by Dr Bruce Irving, Bonshaw, about the turn of the century
A good tune. A conventional strathspey celebrating all the Irving descendants living in New Zealand
A good tune. This celebrates two Irving nephews who changed their names to reflect their lineage. Their children now have their own tunes.
Novel ornament. In the words of an old Japanese-American Christian teacher “even a rusty pipe can deliver life-giving water ...” The piece exploits extensively a rare but fairly easy ornament comprising a Taorluath with an extra note added
