Travelling Piper · A Leprechaun in the Glen

A Leprechaun in the Glen

Named in the attempt to capture both Irish and Scottish musical figures. An exotic subject.

Travelling Piper · Laps from the Linn

Laps from the Linn

Linn is a Scottish word for the plunge-pool of a waterfall. Depicting Psa 10:7 "He drinks from any stream he has to cross, then charges forward triumphing" (Moffat).

Travelling Piper · The Rock of Scotland

Dr Lindsay Davidson

Dr Davidson -  Clan Piper of the Davidson Clan - gained the first Ph.D. in piping!

Travelling Piper · Two Finnish Martyrs

2 Finnish Martyrs

A lament. Two Finnish women working with an NGO in Herat, Afghanistan were killed by gunfire in 2014, after a lifetime of service to the people of that country. Their taxi was attacked, and the driver was also killed.

Travelling Piper · Lament for Dr Tom Little

Tom Little

Another lament. Tom was killed instantly along with about 8 other aid workers when he was returning from an eye relief camp in Northern Afghanistan

Travelling Piper · Maria of the Snows

Maria of the Snows

Electronic Pipes. Maria was a Spanish woman who stayed with us for six months. This is a Flamenco imitation using the computer program, Sibelius.

David and Eilidh's Welcome to Wilton

For a couple coming from the USA to live in our area, with deliberate echoes of the iconic Dr Ross’s 50th Welcome by Donald MacLeod

Travelling Piper · The Return of the King

Return of the King

A tune with at least three layers of meaning. It predates the movie by many years and is intended to convey the excitement as the king approaches. It almost turns into a dance at the end

Travelling Piper · The Scary Pensioner

The Scary Pensioner

Novel chromatics! Composed on Sibelius and played using its electronic pipes. It is a bit scary - like my wife! who had just gained pensioner status

Travelling Piper · Ceol Alba's Fifth Anniversary

Ceol Alba

A hornpipe. This commemorates the 5th anniversary of an active Scottish music group in our suburb

Travelling Piper · New Tartan

Travelling Piper · The New Zealand Irvings

Travelling Piper · The New Irvings

The New Irvings

This celebrates two Irving nephews who changed their names to reflect their lineage. Their children now have their own tunes.

Travelling Piper · Life-giving Pipes

Life-giving Pipes

Novel ornament. In the words of an old Japanese-American Christian teacher “even a rusty pipe can deliver life-giving water ...” The piece exploits extensively a rare but fairly easy ornament comprising a Taorluath with an extra note added
